Got tired of dreamhost’s never-ending technical/hardware/email issues and made the jump to a mediatemple dv server. Took me a couple of days to get everything up and running and the dns switched over but I think I’m all good now. If I have time I’ll post some notes on he switch, there were a few sticky points that were a little hard to figure out and find info on.

heh..well, i should’ve stated that I had been wanting to move to either a dedicated or virtual dedicated for a while. I specifically wanted a server where I can have root access and install anything I want.
mt does offer plenty of other hosting options, which I hear good things about as well.

mt is quite good but they’re a bit pricey and I hate how they make their platform sound a lot more advanced than it really is (it’s not “hundreds of servers for the price of one” that you get, it’s “1/50th of a server for $20/month” !!!).
Two web hosts that I like and that don’t over hype their systems are http://www.asmallorange.com and http://www.webfaction.com . I also find their customer support much more friendly than the mt one …

get prepared to the “never-ending technical/hardware” route on MT too if you plan to use the dv server for heavy traffic hosting… been there, not funny at all.

I’m not a big fan of the MediTemple DV as it is just a VPS with Plesk that you can get multiple other places for cheaper. I see Mike recommended ASO and Webfaction who are both very good.
I would also throw in a few others such as:
http://www.medialayer.com
http://www.doreo.com
http://www.unitedhosting.com
So, your paying 50 bucks a month now vs 10? Seems quite drastic :/
